Obituary:
Virginia Madeline Johnson, age 86, of Spring Lake, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Hospice House at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake. Virginia was born September 12, 1922 in Spring Lake to George P. and Sophie (Ungering) Donner. After graduating from Grand Haven High School, she married Russell A. Johnson on February 15, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A life-long resident, Virginia was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the “Blue Angels” funeral lunch committee, St. Mary's Quilters, Women's Club/Rosary Altar Society and St. Mary's Christian Service Ministry. She volunteered at Spring Lake/Warner Baird Library and Spring Lake Community Education Senior Classes. Virginia is lovingly remembered by her husband Russell; 2 daughters, Barbara (Thomas) King of Grays Lake, IL, Anne M. (David) Reeb of Fenton, MO; 3 sons: Lawrence “Rock” (Pam) Johnson of Grand Haven, Frank (Lisa) Johnson of Ann Arbor, Tom “Ralph” Johnson of Grand Haven; 11 grandchildren: Michael King, Allison King (Kory) Borchers, Scott (Jen) Johnson, Joel Johnson, Alex Johnson, Stephanie Johnson (Geoff) Harrigan, Ross Johnson, Brent Johnson, Elizabeth Reeb, Madison Reeb, Jennifer Reeb; 6 great-grandchildren: Lila King, Evan King, Keegan Johnson, Reggan Borchers, Eleanor Johnson, Annabelle VanDoorne; a sister, Dolores (Edward) Salvin of Grand Rapids; a sister-in-law, Joanne Donner of Spring Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by 2 sons, Patrick in 1954, Jeffery Alan in 1980; a sister Marguerite; and husband James Coffey; brothers, George and wife Rose Donner and Robert Donner. The funeral liturgy for Virginia will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Friends may meet the family Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. with a Scripture/Rosary service at 7:50 p.m. at VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad in Spring Lake. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary's Christian Services, Hospice of North Ottawa Community at Heartwood Lodge or Friends of Spring Lake District Library are appreciated.
