George “Red” W. McAlister was 85 years old when he passed away March 16, 2009, at his winter home in Okeechobee, FL. His wife of 45 years, Ann McAlister, passed before him in 1993. They were residents of Spring Lake for over 32 years. In 1994 he moved to Cadiz, KY, to live closer to his brother and sisters. He was a welder with the Boilermakers local #169 for over 35 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Frat. Order of Eagles #4509 and of the Moose Lodge #2417 in Okeechobee, FL.
His parents, John and Lovie McAlister; one infant brother; and 4 sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by: two daughters, Cheryl (Scott) Anderson of Sand Lake, MI, and Robin Huckabee of Grand Haven; four grandchildren: Samantha Huckabee, Paula (John) Chaney, Brad (Gwen) Anderson, and Marine E4 Corporal Jonathan (Dustie) Anderson; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ambra Armstrong of Kentucky; one brother, Floyd (Verna) McAlister of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
The service for Mr. McAlister will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Pastor Keith Lovell officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-9 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the funeral home in Spring Lake with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
