Florence L. Machek, age 89, of South Bend, IN, and formerly of Nunica passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in South Bend. She was born January 20, 1920, in Grand Haven to Jane (DeBruyn) and Charles W. Barthel, and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Philip C. Machek, a brother Charles K. “Ken” Barthel, and sisters-in-law Sylvia Willoughby and Emily Warber.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. (John) Deak; a sister, Lillian J. (Robert) Schroeder; a brother, Charles W. Barthel; sisters-in-law Grayce Barthel and Ethel (“Bud”) Duer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service for Florence will be held at 12 noon on Friday, May 22, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
