William “Bill” Allen Gardner, age 76, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Mercy Hospital. He was born September 28, 1932, in Grand Haven to William and Margaret (Munch) Gardner, and married Jean Linda Napolitano on May 23, 1991 in Florence, Kentucky.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and served his country during the Korean War in the Air Force. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post #28, Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Bill worked as a self employed brick layer in the construction trades. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, camping and also dancing and sports.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean Linda; a daughter, Amy (Tom) Foster of The Colony, TX; two sons, Bill (Kim) Gardner of Carrollton, TX, Greg (Judy) Gardner of Flower Mound, TX; 3 step-children: Robert Anderson of Carthrage, Missouri, Chris Scott Anderson of Florence, KY, Kelly (Steve) Hyatt of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ben Gardner, and five sisters: Mildred Buikema, Lucille Rant, Winifred Grabman, Margaret Bisacky and Ann Barbrick.
The Funeral Service for Bill will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
