Warren E. Mastenbrook, age 86, of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at the Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born June 9, 1923, in Grand Haven to Edward and Florence (Kieft) Mastenbrook, and he married the former Norma Klatt on September 12, 1947, in Grand Rapids, MI.
Mr. Mastenbrook served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a crew member of the VMF-211 fighter squadron. He was employed as a customer service supervisor for United Airlines, retiring in 1983, and he spent the majority of his retirement years on the Big Island of Hawaii. He was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 in Grand Haven and past commander of the American Legion Carl A. Johnson Post #2 in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; four sons: Michael (Sandy) Mastenbrook of Pinckney, MI, Patrick (Sandie) Mastenbrook of Hudsonville, MI, Timothy (Cher) Mastenbrook of Lowell, MI, and Gary (Mary) Mastenbrook of Schaumburg, IL; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Mastenbrook of Grand Junction, CO, and Jack (Dee) Mastenbrook of Grand Haven; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Mastenbrook of Grand Haven. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arlan.
The service for Warren will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family following the service at the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 in Grand Haven. Memorial contributions to the Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence of Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
