Erma I. Benedict of Muskegon and of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon. She was born December 4, 1918, in Muskegon Heights, to Roy and Hazel (Cone) Hilliard, and she married Merle L. Benedict in 1944. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1999.
Erma owned and operated Benedict’s Gift Shop in downtown Grand Haven with her husband, Merle, and trimmed several store windows regularly. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Muskegon.
She is survived by two nephews, Fred (Mary) Hilliard of Kailua, Hawaii, and David (Debra) Hilliard of South Haven, MI; and a brother, Eugene Hilliard of Norton Shores.
