Obituary:
Doris W. Dempsey, age 90, of Grand Haven went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at a local care facility. She was born March 3, 1919, in Grand Haven, to Henry and Grace (Rosema) Verhoeks. She was married to William Dempsey on July 29, 1937, in Indiana, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1990. Doris lived in Grand Haven all of her life and was a stay at home mom to her children. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven and enjoyed gardening, furniture caning and spending time with her family and grandkids. She is lovingly remembered by 3 daughters: Joyce Welling, and Joan (Russ) Tuuk, both of Grand Haven, and Warrene Long of Muskegon; 4 sons: Richard (Karen) Dempsey of Grand Haven, William (Jan) Dempsey of Milton, FL, James (Kay) Dempsey of Temperance, MI, and David (Eden) Dempsey of Valdosta, GA; 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Shirley “Sal” Harrison of Maple City, MI; She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William, 2 sisters, Leona and Genevieve, 1 grandson, William Dempsey III, 1 great-granddaughter, and a son-in-law, Dave Welling. The service for Doris will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, at First Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Rev. John Kenny officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions to First Reformed Church are appreciated.
