Frank J. Babich, age 73 of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 11, 2009 after fighting a long, hard and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born March 10, 1936 in Portage Township, MI to Marko and Elizabeth (Tarak) Babich. Frank married the former Kathleen Chittenden on July 2, 1960 in Spring Lake.
Frank worked for Clarke Graveling for seventeen years, and at Spectra Products until his retirement in 1997. He loved to sing and play country music on his guitar and performed at many social events. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching football, hockey and baseball. He spent many summer days at the North Pier watching the boats and working on his tan. Frank enjoyed casino gambling and playing the lottery. He always read the newspaper and watched the local and world news. He took pride in keeping his yard looking like a golf course and his cars always got a weekly bath. Frank was also a member of the Fruitport Eagles and of the Fruitport Dragons.
His survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Kathleen; one daughter, Carla (Stephen) Bartow of Trinity, FL; one son, James Babich of Spring Lake, one grandson; Jared Martinka, one sister; Irene (Alex) Geborkoff of Baltic, MI, three brothers; John (Marie) Babich of Spring Lake, Rudolph (Patsy Wiater) Babich of South Lyon, MI, and Joseph Babich of Dodgeville, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosie Spolarich, and his son-in-law, John E. Martinka.
