Obituary:
James Marvin Diephouse, age 91, of Grand Haven went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at North Ottawa Community Hospital. He was born July 3, 1918, in Grand Haven to Herman J. and Maria (VanDoorne) Diephouse. Jim married the former Jeannette Petersen on June 19, 1945 in Grand Haven. Jeannette preceded him in death on August 11, 2004. Jim was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area and had been employed as bookkeeper, accountant and office manager for Rycenga Building Center for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He served his church, First Christian Reformed, as an elder and Sunday School teacher and served on the boards of both Grand Haven Christian School and Western Michigan Christian High School. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and traveling. Survivors include two daughters, Sally (James) Jacobs of Grand Haven and Gretchen (Jerry) Weesies of Kalamazoo; two sons, David (Rev. Evelyn) Diephouse of Grand Rapids and John (Kathy Zurvalec) Diephouse of Lansing, MI; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Patterson of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service for Jim will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 31, 2009 at First Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Richard Hamstra and Rev. Evelyn Diephouse officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
