Obituary:
Ronald A. Hoffmeyer, age 66, of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009, at North Ottawa Community Hospital. He was born April 17, 1943, in Evart, MI, to Olin and Margaret (Anderson) Hoffmeyer, and he married the former Mary Helen Babcock of Grand Haven in 1966. Mr. Hoffmeyer was a fighter pilot in the Air Force having served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He retired as Director of Operations with the Illinois Air National Guard in 1995 as a Colonel. Ron also was a commercial airline pilot for Eastern and American Airlines. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven and the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28, and he enjoyed restoring old Taylorcraft airplanes. Ron is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; three sons: Paul (Katherine) Hoffmeyer of Las Vegas, David (Julie) Hoffmeyer of Chicago, Mark (Jennifer) Hoffmeyer of Los Angeles; his mother, Margaret Hoffmeyer of Evart, MI; 2 grandsons, Ethan and Will; 2 brothers, Norman (Betty) Hoffmeyer and Glen (Larissa) Hoffmeyer, both of Evart, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Olin; a sister, Darlene Norris; brother-in-law, Bill Norris; and a brother, John Hoffmeyer. The service for Mr. Hoffmeyer will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28.
