Oliver John Hill, age 88, of Grand Haven passes away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at North Ottawa Community Hospital. He was born October 20, 1921, in Cambridge, Iowa to John J. and Etta (Emery) Hill. Oliver married the former Amy A. Bolles on April 25, 1942 in Grand Haven.
Oliver was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area and had been employed at Bastian Blessing for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Grand Haven, and a member of the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326. During his retirement he worked at Boulevard Used Cars and loved gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amy; two daughters, Karen (David Husted, and Sally (Robert) Mecker both of Pinellas Park, FL; one son, David (Kathy) Hill of Decatur, MI; 4 grandchildren: Sandra (Grant) Hebert, Scott (Jill) Husted, Shawn (Sherrie) Yost, and Stephanie Hill; 6 great-grandchildren: Adrian, Brittany, Samantha, Damien, Nick, and Tristen; 3 brothers: Tom (Hertha) Hill of Spring Lake, Harlan (Beaty) Hill of Nunica, and Glenn (Katie) Hill of Marne, MI. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters Catherine Ingersoll and Helen Voss.
A Funeral Service for Oliver will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2009 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Pastor Dick Bullock officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service, from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326. The family requests memorials to the Seventh Day Adventist Church or VFW Ward Goff Scholarship Fund are appreciated.
