Obituary:
Ida M. L. Peters, age 95, of Grand Haven was called home to heaven by her heavenly Father, on Friday, March 5, 2010. She was born February 23, 1915, in Grand Haven, to John and Rose (Hancq) Ott. She was married to Edward Peters on June 5, 1948 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Agnew. They were married for 45 years. He preceded her in death in 1993. Ida grew up in Agnew and was a lifelong resident of the Grand Haven area. She worked for the Grand Haven Public Schools at Rosy Mound Elementary as a cook for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (now renamed United Lutheran Church). She served the church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. She was a devoted Girl Scout leader for 12 years and belonged to a Women’s Pinochle club for 55 years and enjoyed playing cards. Ida was a dedicated member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary for 62 years, loved her garden and ran a hobby farm with her husband for many years. She enjoyed Lake Michigan and the beach, loved dancing, especially the Polka, she was an avid reader and often read three to four books a week. Ida cherished the time spent with family and friends, and always encouraged everyone to live for the Lord and pursue education. Ida attended night classes at the age of 60 to complete her high school education, and obtain her diploma. Her family extends their thanks to Dean Knutson for all the time he spent with Ida reading her the Bible. Also the nurses and employees of Stoneybrook for their loving care, friendship and support. She is survived by her loving children: Suzanne (Douglas) Pitts of North Muskegon and Charlene (David) MacKellar of Spring Lake; her much loved grandchildren: Karlene (Matthew) Hantle of Caledonia, Lee (Leigh) MacKellar of Norton Shores, Karen Pitts of Grand Rapids, and Amy MacKellar of Spring Lake; also her beloved great-grandchildren, Kyan and Kendan Hantle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Peters, her parents, two very young brothers who died in early childhood, also her sisters Marie (Harold) Radikopf and Clara Francik. A Service for Ida will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, March 8, 2010, at the United Lutheran Church in West Olive with Rev. Earl Merz officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the United Lutheran Church are appreciated.
