Obituary:
Burdette Morritt, age 89, of Spring Lake passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at his home. He was born on September 16, 1920 to John and Wylda (McLellan) Morritt in London, Ontario, Canada. Burdette married the former Bertha Elizabeth Schweitzer 69 years ago. A resident of Spring Lake for most of his life, Burdette served in the Army during World War II. Burdette was self-employed in the trucking and landscape business for several years. Burdette was a member and former elder and deacon at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28, VFW post #2326 where he served on the Honor Guard and as Chaplain, Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200, North Ottawa Rod and Gun Club, Michigan United Conservation Club, Camera Club, the Grand Haven Whirlers and past president of the Grand Haven Band Parents. Burdette loved the game of golf and enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, reading and square dancing. Burdette is lovingly remembered by his wife Bertha; a daughter, Connie Wiese of Brighton; two sons, Darrell (Maureen Haan) Morritt of Marne and Bevin Morritt of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren: Heather Ringoen, Holly and Ryan Wiese, Brian and Beth Morritt, Alicia Hooker, Shelley Wilber; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burdette was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Uwe Wiese, a brother, Ettral, and a sister, Marjorie Rond. The service for Burdette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Post #2326 Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
